RESUMO

The minute valvatiform-shelled Hydrobiidae are less studied than other hydrobiid gastropods. In this paper, new data on these snails are presented, which have been collected at twelve springs in southern Greece: one in Boeotia, one on Evvoia Island, and ten on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and nuclear histone (H3) have been used to confirm the determinations and infer the relationships of the studied gastropods. They represent the genera Daphniola, Graecoarganiella and Isimerope. New localities, expanding the known geographic ranges, have been presented for Daphniolahadei and Daphniolalouisi. A species of Daphniola found at two localities has been identified as a species new to science, and its description, including the shell, penis, and female reproductive organs is given. Possible relationships between Graecoarganiella and Isimerope are discussed; their representatives are possibly new species. At one locality a single specimen likely represents a new genus: it was found to be most closely related with Islamia, but genetically (p-distance) too distant to be congeneric with Islamia.

RESUMO

The Balkan genus Spelaeodiscus Brusina, 1886 is revised based on museum collections and newly collected samples from Montenegro and Albania. The following species and subspecies are introduced as new to science: Spelaeodiscus albanicus edentatus Páll-Gergely & P. L. Reischütz, ssp. n. (southern Montenegro and northern Albania), Spelaeodiscus densecostatus Páll-Gergely & A. Reischütz, sp. n., Spelaeodiscus hunyadii Páll-Gergely & Deli, sp. n., Spelaeodiscus latecostatus Páll-Gergely & Eross, sp. n. (all three from southern Montenegro), Spelaeodiscus unidentatus acutus Páll-Gergely & Fehér, ssp. n., and Spelaeodiscus virpazarioides Páll-Gergely & Fehér, sp. n. (both from northern Albania). For all species and subspecies diagnoses and suggestions for conservation status assessments according to IUCN criteria are provided. An overview is given regarding the habitat preference of Spelaeodiscus species, and the "scratch and flotate" method to collect subterranean gastropods.

RESUMO

During a field trip to the western part of the Balkan Peninsula in 2016, investigations of several caves and karstic springs revealed six new gastropod species living in subterranean waters and resulted in some note-worthy faunistic records. Five of the new species are assigned to the genus Paladilhiopsis Pavlovic, 1913, namely P. prekalensissp. n., P. lozekisp. n., P. szekeresisp. n., P. wohlberedtisp. n., P. falniowskiisp. n. and one to the genus Plagigeyeria Tomlin, 1930, namely P. steffekisp. n. New Albania and Kosovo distribution records are given for Iglica illyrica Schütt, 1975, Plagigeyeria zetaprotogona Schütt, 1960, Vinodolia matjasici (Bole, 1961), and the first georeferenced record is given for Saxurinator schlickumi Schütt, 1960. The most important environmental factors influencing habitat selection of these subterranean freshwater gastropods are briefly discussed.

RESUMO

A short overview of subterranean Balkan hydrobid genera, with special focus on genus Bythiospeum Bourguignat, 1892 and Iglica A.J. Wagner, 1928 is given. In addition, based on recently collected material in Montenegro (Vitoja Spring) and Albania (Krumë), five new species are described, namely: Bracenica vitojaensis n. sp., Islamia montenegrina n. sp., Lanzaia pesici n. sp., Bythiospeum szarowskae n. sp. and Pseudamnicola krumensis n. sp. The holotypes and paratypes are depicted. In addition a re-description of Bythiospeum gittenbergeri (A. & P.L. Reischütz, 2008) is given and the types of the Iglica spp. deposited in the NHMW are depicted, some of them for the first time.
